Hughes records double
Ian McCarthy who celebrated his 21st at the weekend received the perfect birthday present when winning The Carroll Cuisine Handicap Chase aboard the Dessie Hughes trained Laura's Light for owner Fred Kenny making it a double on the day for the trainer.
Winning trainer Hughes said afterwards, "He's a tough little divil, he was the first one beaten but he just keeps going and he stays and stays. He was running off a nice handicap mark today. We might have a look at the Midlands National here next for him. He seems to love the good ground which is strange considering he's by Turtle Island."
Hughes other winner came when Trimbellina ran out an impressive 10 length victory of The Genesis Handicap Hurdle under Roger Loughran.
