The Derby winning connections of trainer Dermot Weld, owner the Aga Khan and jockey Pat Smullen combined to win the European Breeders Fund Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks Fillies Handicap at Down Royal today with Simmannka.
The daughter of Mastercraftsman was produced to lead over a furlong out before scoring an easy three and a half lengths win over Glenmayne
Afterwards Smullen stated “she's a filly that I like to get a bit of cover on and I probably made too much use of her early in her career.
“I probably got there a shade too soon but she quickened up well and is one of those progressive fillies.
"If needs be (she could step up in trip) but she's not slow either. She had a turn of foot there. A mile and a quarter right now is probably okay for her.
“With all these fillies black type is the ultimate goal and she's progressing along nicely. I suppose the handicapper will decide where we go next but in the future it will be something to try and achieve."
