Jordan Gainford is looking forward to getting the leg up on Hewick again in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal this afternoon.

The 'Shark' Hanlon-trained star has given the rider some memorable days in recent years, including a Galway Plate and American Grand National.

He comes here after a pleasing comeback run at Punchestown last month, when third to French Dynamite in Grade 3 company, and Gainford is hoping for another big show:-

“What he's done for my career alone is brilliant.

“He's not a big horse but he has a heart and tries hard. I think with any horse once they've a good attitude, are genuine and love the job it's half the battle and he has it.

“Fingers crossed, he's a horse that turns up everyday. He's obviously had a run in Punchestown this year.

“It's going to be interesting, it's going to be tactical, and I'm really excited.”

Darragh O'Keeffe steps in for the ride on Envoi Allen in the Grade 1 contest and is delighted to be getting the opportunity on the Cheveley Park-owned gelding.

Henry de Bromhead's charge was just denied in the race last year by Gerri Colombe having won the three-miler 12 months previously.

“Envoi Allen is in good form. I've had a sit on him in Henry's and he seems to be really well in himself,” said O'Keeffe.

“He has a good record at Down Royal and has been a previous winner of the race.

“He was second in it last year to Gerri Colombe and they're going to have a rematch again.

“I think the nice ground will really suit him so hopefully he puts up a good performance.

“It's very unfortunate for Rachael (Blackmore) that she misses the ride on him but I'm very grateful to connections for giving me the spin on him. Hopefully we've a bit of luck on the day.”
