Ireland's busiest jockey Andrew Lynch continues to show an amazing appetite and durability for his profession and today steered Fu's Island to win the Rooftop Racing Packages @ Gowran Park Maiden Hurdle at Gowran today.
Lynch, who suffered bruising to his face in a bang riding out in recent days and also had a heavy fall at Sligo on Wednesday, was riding in his 307th race of the new season. Sizing Europe's jockey Lynch, who was Ireland's busiest jumps jockey on each of the last two seasons has now, incredibly, ridden in more than 100 more races than the second-busiest jockey, Jonathan Burke with 192 rides.
Following Fu's Island's win, winning trainer Paddy Meany stated "it was a good performance and I was hoping she'd be in the first three.
"We'll keep her to hurdles for the rest of the season and hopefully she stays sound; we don't have too many so we have to mind them!
"She's going well on that good ground but most of the Turtle Island's like a cut. She'll probably run in a novice now and we'll see what mark the handicapper gives her.
