Race 1 Ballinrobe
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Massini's Trap ridden by T.E. Doran and trained by Mr J.A. Nash.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his instructions were to jump off fifth or sixth on the rail, creeping into the race before ultimately doing his best.
He added that the horse jumped adequately towards the rear before staying on very well in the straight. He concluded by accepting that he left the horse with too much to do and had he ridden his mount more prominently he felt he would have won.
Evidence was also heard from the trainer concerned who confirmed the instructions but expressed his disappointment with the ride.
The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Massini's Trap was post race normal.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that T.E. Doran was in breach of Rule 212(a)(i) in that he failed to take reasonable and permissable measures throughout the race to obtain his best possible place and suspended him for fifty race days and was order to forfeit his riding fee. The trainer's explanations were noted.
