Gordon Elliott’s winning run over Easter continued as 9/4 favourite Don’t Back Down narrowly prevailed in the beginners chase at Cork by half a length.
Elliott had just seen Akorakor take the Racing Post Champion Point-To-Point Flat Race at Fairyhouse less than half an hour ago. This followed up on two winners at Corkand two at Fairyhouse yesterday. Drawn N Drank spoiled his chance when blundering four out and Pigeon Creek (4/1) threw away a winning opportunity when ploughing through the last.
This allowed Don’t Back Down to jump the last well and battle to the line to take the spoils under Mikey Fogarty.
“The ground was a bit nicer than what he was running on recently. He was entitled to win. He’s tough, but wasn’t doing a stroke in front,” Mikey Fogarty said.
This win gave jockey Fogarty a double at Cork today.
