David Mullins completed a double at Punchestown when teaming up with his father Tom to land the Nally Bros Hyundai Supporting Longford GAA Handicap Hurdle with Court Maid
Mullins had earlier partnered Some Neck trained by his uncle Willie, to take the Grade 2 Liam & Valerie Brennan Memorial Florida Pearl Novice Chase, and was completing a 43/1 double.
The well-backed 9/2 favourite led approaching the final hurdle in this three-mile event, and dug deep on the run-in to hold off the challenge of Jack Fiasco by half a length.
The pair stretched seven lengths clear of Ozzie’s Way in third.
Tom Mullins said, “It’s grand that the ground stayed right for her as I don’t think she’s a heavy ground mare. It was her first handicap so I didn’t mind missing out the hurdles down the back!
“Hopefully she’ll keep her form for something around Christmas. She got the trip well and picked up when the other one came at her. I wouldn’t be stuck on three miles and she could be best at around two and a half.
“I always thought a lot of her, so hopefully she’ll keep improving. She’s well-bred and nice to have her in the yard.”
