Basil delights Katie & Nash
A year ago in the Tipperary (Lady Riders) Handicap Hurdle Johnee Joblot ran out at the last when still in with every chance under Katie Walsh but the Kildare woman had a happier experience twelve months on when she brought home Red Basil a four and a half length winner.
The French-bred came into this two miler as a nine-year-old maiden but Walsh gave him a dashing drive, making virtually all and the well-backed favourite (7s in the morning into 4s) found plenty from before the last to score from Mon Champion
This was a good training performance from James Nash as Red Basil was coming off a 550 day break. He said: "When this race was lost to the frost two weeks ago, Katie convinced me to wait and it has been worth waiting for.
"We always liked him but the star performance has to go to his owner, Eamonn Duignan to give a nine-year-old another chance. He cracked his pelvis and he'll probably go chasing because he is a fantastic jumper. Katie gave him a fantastic ride."
