Bargain buy Shesakindofmagic (9/2) landed Limerick’s concluding JJ Kavanagh Buses Mares Bumper today, as the Anthony McCann-trained mare scored under jockey Aine O’Connor.

Racing prominently throughout, the Mahler-mare fought off principal threat Forceonmyown in the home straight, to score by 2.5 lengths.

McCann reported “we bought her out of Mags Mullins’ yard in January as she is a half-sister to (stablemate) Kiki Badger and had a good run on debut at Clonmel. I rang Derek O’Connor, who rode her, and he said she’d win during Christmas - but at this meeting last year. She missed the meeting though, as she pulled a muscle so I ended up buying her at the sales in January (for £8,000).

“I couldn’t believe how cheap she was so this is brilliant and she picks up bonuses for her owners today too.”

He added wWe probably didn’t give Heads Up (front-running Punchestown winner in November) enough credit the last day but Aine then used her head when she wasn’t able to catch him and made sure to win the ‘second race’. We decided to come here and Aine gave her a very very good ride again.

“Great credit goes to the staff in the yard for coming in over Christmas as it is tough out there, although it brilliant to get the winner.”
