"It was a bit of a surprise how he won but I thought he was a good horse," acknowledged trainer Jerry Cosgrave after his Ballela Boy (20/1) had the required talent to score at the first time of asking, taking the Go Racing In Kildare Membership 2016 (Pro/Am) Flat Race at Naas under Mark O'Hare.
The Golan gelding went through this two miler like a horse we'll be hearing plenty more about and he came there travelling well on the rail from over a quarter of a mile out.
Without O'Hare asking for too much Ballela Boy saw off the well-backed favourite Bright Tomorrow by three and a half lengths.
"He's pleased us in all his work but we've never got serious with him. I thought he'd be in the first three today," further disclosed Cosgrave.
"He'll probably go to the Brightwells sales next week.
"I was watching it on Tv and thinking 'when are you going to let him go Mark' as he was travelling all over them. He didn't want him hitting the front too soon.
"He switches off and does everything relaxed. I think he'll get further. He's as good as we have in the yard at the moment."
