Silk Hall springs another surprise
On his fifth start for trainer James Lambe, Silk Hall scored for the second time in Ireland, in the Ballybane Hurdle at the odds of 14/1 with Eddie O’Connell in the saddle. Sun 28th Aug

There was a bit of money about for him this morning but Silk Hall eventually went off a 25/1 chance (paid 60/1 on the Tote) for the London Southend Airport European Breeders Fund Handicap, a price he defied by a length and a quarter under Chris Hayes. Sat 25th Jun
After race at Tipperary Sun, 21st Jul, 2013 (1st) 
he (Silk Hall) didn't become a bad horse overnight and was once third in the Scottish Champion Hurdle. He was well up to competing in races like the Swinton Hurdle but maybe he was getting lazy in his old age and the blinkers made him more focussed. I told Eddie (O'Connell) to be positive on him and that he'd definitely stay. He's a bit tubby and can be lazy so we put blinkers on at home last week and they seemed to work the oracle. He won't run in the Galway Hurdle as he is better over two and a half miles and will instead run in the 2m6f Grade C handicap hurdle on the Saturday at Galway.

My horses have been under a cloud. They haven't been running well since the Galway Festival. Hopefully they are turning a corner now. He was a Saturday horse when he was in England, running against the likes of Riverside Theatre and Somersby. On his day he is not a bad horse. Hopefully there is big pot in him and he should improve even more. His owner James Callow is from Cumbria and this is my tenth winner for him this season.

He was left too much to do in Killarney last time. He was a very very good horse for Alan King and he chased home Starluck over hurdles as a four-year-old. He was fifth in a very good hurdle at Aintree with Riverside Theatre and Somersby around him. He was a very good horse as a four-year-old when he was rated 147. We knew what we had after Killarney. He'll go for the GPT (the amateur handicap on the Monday night at Galway) now and that should leave him spot on for it. He will improve as he hasn't been drove at home. I told Chris that he'd gallop and was laden with stamina.
