He had a tough winter when he got a bad dose of laminitis and has suffered for a long time. He needed round-the-clock minding and Louise Williams really saved him and had a special boot for him which took the pressure off. We had to be patient and we were lucky we caught it early,. It has taken us a while to get him fit and his run on the flat really brought him on. I told Brian he'd see it out, as he is lazy and you have to work. He is never going to be flashy but he'll try for you. He will go to Galway for the 2m6f handicap on the Friday - I don't know would he have the speed early-doors for the Galway Hurdle. I'd like to think going forward he could be a horse for Leopardstown at Christmas and the Dublin Racing Festival. we're hovering around 10-12 horses, they're all running solid and one like him makes it easier.

His run the last day sharpened him up; he can race on and off the bridle so we gave him a few spins on the flat and it worked out grand. The 7lbs was a huge help carrying 9st9lbs and it is Simon's first ride for me, and I'm delighted for him and he gave him a great spin. We were hoping he'd get into the Grade B hurdle, but that's my first Galway festival winner and we won't be greedy!. We might look at taking him across to Cheltenham for the November meeting and he has plenty of size and scope to jump fences; I want to have a crack at a big pot before we go chasing.

it's hard to know what to make of him - we put the cheekpieces on him to see if we could get him to travel today. He's lazy and he is switching on and off. He travelled ok today but at the top of the hill you would wonder. He toughed it out well in fairness to him and we would be happy enough with him. He jumped very well today and will jump a fence but we'll probably stay hurdling for the minute. We'll stay aiming small for the minute and see how we go. I've only had a handful of runners up here and he is my first winner here. The man who bred the horse (John Magee) is from up here, so it is nice.

We were very disappointed with him the last day when we put a hood on him and he completely switched off and never travelled. Ryan (Treacy, jockey then) thought he flipped his palate coming down the straight so we said we'd stick the tongue-tie on him and ride him up with the pace. Donie (McInerney) said he was falling asleep racing down the back straight and had to give him a smack but hopefully that might buck him up now. He needs to grow up a bit, we'll keep him on the go and we'll look to go back to Listowel for a race there in September.

He was showing all the right signs at home and was doing everything right. I was afraid the ground might have been gone on him but he handled it okay,.
