He's got the heart of a lion alright
Odds-on favourite Jenkins matched at odds of 1.03 'in the run' on the betting exchanges, when he seemingly had the Goffs Land Rover Bumper all wrapped up when striking for home in the straight. However he was reeled in and beaten by the Brendan Keogh-owned, Robert Tyner-trained, and Barry O'Neill-ridden Coeur De Lion (22/1). Tue 26th Apr
there is no doubt that he has a lot of ability but he doesn't know how to jump and I don't know why, as he's such a good mover. Sean (Flanagan) said he jumps very flat and gets in under them; he made a bad mistake at the third last and that's where he got out of it. I thought I was going to be third but he stays very well. Hopefully some day he'll get his jumping right and when he does he has a good engine. We put the blinkers on because at home he was throwing his head around and it got him to concentrate on the fences and what he was doing. Sean said he settled better with them and we'll leave them on. His owner is very keen that he goes to Cheltenham and the obvious race is the four-miler but whether you would put an amateur on him I don't know!
Noel Meade
We think the world of this fella but jumping has been a real problem with him over hurdles and his first run (over fences at Down Royal) he didn't really fire. I don't know what happened him. He only made one mistake last week and today he was really good. He has an engine and he stays. He could climb high enough if he got his jumping together. Seeing as he's had two runs in a week, Christmas will probably come too soon. There is a three-mile Grade 3 (Woodlands Park 100) Novice Chase at Naas next month that he could go for next. A Genie In Abottle won this race last year and then finished second to Anibale Fly in that race at Naas.
Noel Meade
he jumped terrible; I don’t know what it is because he jumps fences well and schooled well Wednesday morning. He hasn’t done much work and Sean (Flanagan) said he got quite tired but I would have expected that.
Noel Meade
He's only filling out and is still a bit green, although the race in the North stood to him. I was worried that this race was coming a bit quick but we can give him a bit of time now,.
Noel Meade
It was a good day. He is a good horse, but wants a bit softer ground,. There was only a head between them (the winner and the runner-up Brelade) in the Land Rover, and there was only half a length between them today. He will run over hurdles now, he jumps well and we like him.
Noel Meade
