I was disappointed in Naas, but he had to get some treatment on his back and he needed time off and just got stuffy. He blew up in Naas. I know that was over a mile and a-half which stretches him a bit, but he’s an older horse and takes a bit of work. He loves this place. He loves the long straight and this place and Naas suits him well. In Group 2's and Group 3's he’s very competitive. He’ll probably go for the mile and a half race on Champions Weekend in Leopardstown if there is an ease in the ground. Gary (Carroll) said that Helvic Dream gave him a great feel and moved well. We might try and stretch him out to a mile and a-half because later in the year, on the ground that he wants, there are not that many races over a mile and a-quarter. There horses are very hard to find, you don’t come across them too often for reasonable money.

He’s not in the Tattersalls Gold Cup but we’ll have to think about supplementing him for it now. He certainly deserves a place in it. He’s in the Hardwicke and that is a possibility. He’s improving all the time and he was very good. As Chris said he nearly got there too soon. He’s beaten the same horses again but has beaten them better and I thought he travelled better today. We still think a mile and a half wouldn’t be a problem. I feel sorry for Oisin (Orr) because he won on him twice this year but Chris won the Lincoln and a Listed race last year and knows him well too. It would be an expensive call to put him in it (Tattersalls Gold Cup) but we’ll decide closer to the time.

The two of them did a little piece of work the other morning, Colin (Keane) rode the other fella and Oisin rode this fella. He worked so well I said I couldn't not run him,. I didn't ever want to run one against the other but I knew the other fella was going to need it and I was always afraid that the ground was going to be too quick for him and that I might have to take him out. This fella goes on any ground, maybe not heavy but he goes on most ground. He's just getting better and Oisin thinks he'll be better over a bit further. He thinks a mile-and-a-half will suit him better because he says he actually struggles early, maybe he's lazy though. Maybe a fast run mile-and-a-quarter suits him best. He's been in fantastic form all spring. In his work the other morning he went six furlongs and he couldn't get a hold of him at all. To have the two of them heading the same direction you don't like to be bumping heads. Chris (Hayes on Helvic Dream) said the ground was as quick as the other fella wanted it. He wants soft ground and he'll come back here for the Mooresbridge Stakes. The winner is in it as well and you'd have to think about that race for him as well. If he keeps climbing the way he's climbing you wouldn't know where he would end up. That was impressive.

It’s sore but I’m alright. I was very lucky because I was kicked on the softest soft (backside) and missed the bone. It just shows you what can happen. We’re delighted to win. We had the choice of the Lincoln but I felt that there could be something in it that was a Stakes horse and it could be difficult off 102 to win it. He’s been working the house down at home. He’s moving great this year so we’ll progress on in Stakes races and see how we get on. He races lazily as you saw there. Oisin is going to ride a good few for me this year when Colin is not available. He can go a mile and a half. He’s won two Listed races now so we’ll try and get a Group 3.

it's nice when a plan comes together! . I'm delighted for the owners too because they haven't had a lot of luck lately. I put cheekpieces on him and Chris (Hayes) said they made some difference to him. He's quite a nice horse and hopefully he'll be able to build on that. The first day he ran here last year the ground was very quick and it took him a long time to get over it as he was sore after the run.

After race at Naas Sun, 23rd Aug, 2020 (1st)
I didn’t think he was going to win at any stage. I don’t know whether that was the ground or whether he’s gone lazy, but I suppose when he races like that it helps him to see out the trip.

That's great. He got into a lot of trouble the last day at the Curragh and we fancied him today. He jumped very quick at the Curragh and Colin made a decision to take him back, but when he took him back he could never get out after that. He did come home really well. I bought him at the breeze-up sales. I'm delighted for the owner because it's his first venture on the Flat. Colin said the saddle went back and he plunged for the first furlong today, he was thinking 'what's going to happen now'. It's great to have Colin on your side, he's a lovely fella along with everything else and we get on very well. He's dead straight to deal with and doesn't pull any punches. I leave it up to him and told him to ride him whatever way he wanted. He knows more about riding than I do. I suppose you'd have to look at the final now. The other fella (Helvic Dream) is there as well. This lad mightn't handle real soft ground whereas the other horse would handle all sorts of ground.
