Veteran King wins again at big price
Up with the pace tactics have been successfully deployed through the card at Sligo, sometimes to the betterment of punter's pockets. However it was the bookmakers that got a result in the penultimate at the Cleveragh venue, through Glenbank King (25/1). Wed 08th AugMcDonogh bags last 2 at Down Royal
The last two races on Down Royal's Ulster Derby Day card went the way of former champion jockey Declan McDonogh, and he landed the finale, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden on Manzil. Sat 23rd JunMcNiff wins with lesser fancied Garrison

Carolan off mark as McDonogh takes two
Declan McDonogh added to his earlier gains on In My Pocket, when doubling up at Limerick on Last Garrison, to supply Kells, County Meath-based Nigel Carolan (36) with his first track winner when taking division one of the Ladbrokes Munster National Tomorrow Handicap. Sat 10th OctCape one to look forward to
An 84 day break and a little step up in trip from his debut at this course back in July, seemed to do wonders for Cape Aqraan, the 33/1 victor of the www.roscommonracecourse.ie Maiden for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane. Mon 28th Sep

I thought she (Dayereh) would have taken a lot of beating on her last run. This lad's first run for us he had a real nice run in Limerick and seemed to go backwards big time on his next two starts,. Declan (McDonogh) had won on him before for the last trainer and Declan said he can't be crowded at all. He shows plenty enough at home. First-time blinkers could have been a factor as well. I'd say they went plenty hard, all of the fancied ones were handy and didn't stay going. It's great to get it. The syndicate have been with me basically since I started. He'll go for something similar next time. He's actually in Cartmel on Friday over hurdles in case the blinkers did spark him up. We'll see if we go or not, it depends on what the English handicapper does.

That's my first winner but I've ridden and trained point to point winners in the past. I'm delighted to get it as I've had the license too long but hard work has finally paid off. He's one of three horses I have, all are family owned, but I gave away his sister, The Nutcracker (dual winner), so this makes up for that!
