Permission was given for Diamond Joel (GB) to go early to post and be mounted in the chute.
The winner, Beat The Heat (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Southwell on 18 May 2022, where the gelding finished seventh of 10, beaten by 20 ¾ lengths.
Jim Boyle explained that Beat The Heat (GB) had benefitted from a drop in trip from 2 miles 4 furlongs, to 2 miles 1 furlong, and a return to Fontwell where he always runs well.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Pat Phelan reported that Iconic Mover (GB), placed fifth, was unsuited by the Good to Soft ground and would prefer a quicker surface.
