The winner, Dick Datchery (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Haydock on 3 July 2020 where the gelding finished eleventh of twelve, beaten 16 lengths.
David O’Meara’s representative’s explanation that the gelding benefited from the application of a visor for the first time and appreciated the return to Ayr where it has run well in the past, was noted.
Dick Datchery (IRE) was routine tested.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Glory Fighter (GB), ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Iain Jardine which was dropped out in the early stages but stayed on under an apparent tender ride to finish seventh, beaten 4 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding finished with small wounds on its left hind pastern.
The rider stated that although Glory Fighter (GB) had raced prominently in its previous races, he was instructed on this occasion to drop the gelding out over this longer 6 furlong trip.
He added that Glory Fighter (GB) ran keenly in the early stages of the race and thereafter he was denied a clear run until the closing stages.
The trainer stated this was the first time that he had run the gelding over 6 furlongs and in its two previous races over 5 furlongs Glory Fighter (GB) had raced too keenly and he therefore wanted the rider to get him settled on this occasion.
He added that Glory Fighter (GB) was also disadvantaged by his low draw.
Their explanations were noted.
