The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Royal Boru, trained by Mrs Gillian Callaghan, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race. Mrs Gillian Callaghan, trainer of Royal Boru, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that her charge made a respiratory noise in running The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of Imperial Breeze, trained by Neil McKnight, placed first compared with its recent run. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned who stated that the previous run at Downpatrick 23rd March was his first under his care. He added that he was very disappointed with the run and sought veterinary advice on returning home. It was suggested that about a week should pass before blood samples were taken for analysis. Subsequently results showed signs of a virus in the geldings system. The animal was eased in his training until returning to good health in recent weeks. He further added that his yard was generally under a cloud in recent times. He admitted that he did not comply with the relevant rule to report anything that may have affected the running of his charge. Evidence was also heard from Noel O'Brien, Turf Club Senior N.H. Handicapper, who stated that he had dropped Imperial Breeze 3 lbs for his performance at Downpatrick but added that the animal had previously reached a rating of 99. Having considered the evidence the Stewards referred this matter to the Referrals Committee.
