Another remarkably gutsy performance from Blazing Bailey, who ground this out and pulled away in the closing stages.

He was under pressure from the fourth last but kept finding for 'Choc' Thornton. Only fifth turning in he started to motor before the last and jumped into the lead at the final flight.

Having worked hard to get there he duly pulled away in great style to post a wide margin success.

Trainer Alan King reported that Thornton had felt his charge was a bit flat today and said they had "got away with it" after a hard season.

A similar campaign is planned for next year and he won't be asked to go over fences while he is still competitive in this sphere.

Refinement looked set to follow up on last year's success when hitting the lead before the final flight. She couldn't contain the winner however.

It was a great effort in what looked a stronger renewal this year and she is sure to pick up more good prizes next season if staying in training.

Aitmatov was held up to get the trip. He moved on to the tails of the leaders turning in but could only keep on at one pace from before the last.

Cooldine had headed a bunch turning in but had no more to offer when headed before the last. It was a decent effort from the novice who was taking a big step up in grade here.

Catch Me was another on the premises turning in but was gone before the last while Kazal, who had been prominent, faded in the straight.

Venalmar had went to the front before the turn, but weakened early in the straight and was virtually pulled up from the last.
