Robert Winston, the rider of SECRETFACT, placed eighth, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post. After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Winston was suspended for 1 day for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that could have finished seventh.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong involving OUTRAGE, placed sixth, ridden by George Downing; LA FORTUNA, placed seventh, ridden by Charles Bishop and JAN VAN HOOF (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Phil Dennis. Downing was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he maneuvered right causing LA FORTUNA to be carried off its intended line, which in turn caused JAN VAN HOOF (IRE) to be carried off its intended line and clip heels.
Following the race, Robert Winston reported that SECRETFACT, placed eighth, jinked left leaving the stalls.
Edward Greatrex, the rider of CAPTAIN LARS (SAF), placed second, was suspended for 4 days for using his whip above the permitted level and without time to respond from approaching the final furlong.
