The grey Snaefell made it a double on the card for both Johnny Murtagh and Danehill Dancer as he just held off the challenge of English raider Raptor by a shorthead. The winner led 150 yards from the line and just held off Raptor who had appeared earlier this term at Doncaster.

Snaefell was consistent in what he did last year and landed a listed contest on Derby weekend last season and had a substantial weight of 9st13lbs to overcome on this occasion.

He stuck at it well and proved six-furlongs is no obstacle and it was interesting to hear Michael Halford's thoughts afterwards, "I thought he would need the run and he has done well for his first outing. He should come on an awful lot for that and he is probably better with an ease."

Listed events at Naas and Cork were earmarked for the winner by Michael Halford.

The raiding party of Raptor and Northern Dare put up a strong challenge with the latter looking hard to shrug off at a stage but he will certainly appreciate less of an ease in the going as despite his fondness of six-furlongs last season he just failed to get home.

Alone He Stands is another who probably found the tacky conditions a bit much but he did win a handicap of lesser distinction at Tipperary last summer.
