The Stewards fined P.J. Rothwell, trainer, ?350 for lodging a passport in respect of La Regle, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order. The Stewards interviewed Mr D.J. Benson, rider of Royal Zorro, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he had used his whip with excessive force and frequency and Regulation 10.3 (e), in that he had used his whip other than down the shoulder or the hind quarters. Having taken his excellent record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for one raceday. Mr Michael Moloney, trainee Acting Steward was present for this enquiry.
