MASK OF DARKNESS got well on top in the closing stages for an impressive success. The first reserve was well-supported in the market (8/1-3/1) and, after making good headway to join the leaders half a mile out, went clear from over a furlong out despite showing signs of greenness.

BIG JENNY and the winner drew away from the pack off the home turn and, while no match for the Moscow Society gelding, kept on well.

KILCORNAN and TEVE NA MARA both stayed on well inside the final quarter mile without getting in a blow at the principals, while HAPPY BIRTHDAY appeared a big threat when easily making up ground to join the leaders before the straight. His challenge petered out in the straight but it was still an effort of some merit.
