Permission was given for both Frankly Mr Shankly (GER) and Sands Chorus (GB) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from the final 1½ furlongs out, involving the winner, Sands Chorus (GB), ridden by Miss Amy Collier and Menin Gate (IRE), placed third, ridden by Miss Brodie Hampson.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Sands Chorus (GB)’s placing as although Menin Gate (IRE) was carried across the track, the gelding lost less momentum and ground than the 2 lengths it was beaten by Sands Chorus (GB).
Miss Collier was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as she allowed her horse to hang continually right without sufficient correction for a furlong, carrying Menin Gate (IRE) off its intended line.
Following the race, Miss Serena Brotherton reported that Mr Coco Bean (USA), unplaced, veered right leaving the stalls and lost many lengths as a result.
