Astute Approach franked the form of the infamous Leopardstown bumper held in January by coming out and going one better here for trainer Eddie Hales. The winner made most of the running in what was a steady enough pace to this two-mile contest.

The Bob Back gelding was only headed briefly by the free running Melbourne Lad who eventually finished with just one behind, that one was Dancing Ruby who was virtually pulled up.

Gallant Ferns came with a late run to take second place but once the winner quickened away he settled the issue in fairly good fashion to score by eight lengths. Gallant Ferns has now taken the silver medal on two occasions but will not have to wait long to claim a similar event.

Jessica Harrington?s City Meaning took a keen hold during the race and that no doubt wasted some of his energy which may have proved costly at the business end of things while Kings Pass made an encouraging debut for Jim Dreaper.

Andrew Duff rider of Dancing Ruby reported to the stewards secretary that his mount was hanging badly and therefore he was unable to ride a finish.
