Prior to this race, Peter Bowen was asked to explain why he was running Henryville (GB) here at Cartmel on going described as Good to Soft, Good in places, Soft in places on the woodside, having reported the gelding was unsuited by the Good to Soft ground and would prefer a quicker surface at Market Rasen on 20 July 2019.

The trainer’s explanation was noted that in his opinion the ground at Market Rasen was riding softer than the official description, and that in hindsight the race at Market Rasen may have come too soon for Henryville (GB) who had only ran 7 days previous.

An enquiry was held to consider why once the tape had been released, the winner Traditional Dancer (IRE), appeared to be allowed an easy lead by the other runners.

Brian Hughes the rider of Steel Wave (IRE), placed third, and Sean Bowen the rider of Henryville (GB), placed second, were interviewed.

Hughes stated that his instructions were to drop Steel Wave (IRE) in and take his time.

He added that he made an effort to make inroads to Traditional Dancer (IRE) on the final circuit but Steel Wave (IRE) finished tired and was unable to do so.

Bowen stated that his instructions were to drop in last which is how Henryville (GB) is always ridden due to the gelding normally being very keen.

He further added that on this occasion Henryville (GB) was never travelling and finished very tired.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards noted their explanations.

Following the race, Sean Bowen reported that Henryville (GB), placed second, was never travelling.
