Cochlear got a lovely run up the rail to lead inside the final furlong and land the spoils.

Wayne Lordan crept into contention in fourth two furlongs out and his mount quickened well when asked to go about his business a furlong out.

He kept on well to hold the late run of Striking Force. Mick Kinane conjured a good finish from the Danehill colt, who was sixth over a furlong out and found another gear on the outside to close all the way to the line.

The pair pulled a couple of lengths away from Haoin An Bothar, who was prominent throughout and disputed from a furlong out before giving way in the closing stages.

The Middle Peace was also to the fore throughout. He was strongly pressed in the lead from the furlong marker but only faded out of it in the last 100 yards.

The Fonze had been absent since November 2006 and made a highly encouraging return to action. Eoin Doyle's charge, a hat-trick scorer over hurdles in November 2005, had also scored twice on the all-weather at Lingfield in the summer of 2006.

He threw down a strong challenge a furlong out but had no more to offer in the closing stages, finishing a good fourth.

Princess Teddy ran a fair race. She challenged in third two furlongs out but had no more to offer from the furlong marker.

Morath was slowly away and never got involved, tailing off in the straight while Perfection also dwelt a bit and was never a factor.
