Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start, the filly was deemed fit to race.
An enquiry was held to determine the reason Silvestre De Sousa had refused to ride Bass Strait (GB), leading to the filly being withdrawn by the Starter at 2.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
De Sousa’s explanation that he was concerned for his own safety after Bass Strait (GB) had been unruly in the preliminaries, leading to the filly being led riderless to the start before kicking out when mounted behind the stalls, was accepted.
