Review roscommon 4th Aug
Fran Berry stole the riding honours with an excellent display of front-running tactics aboard Spinning Wings at Roscommon.
Just four runners went to post for the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap and Berry stole the advantage at the flip start, kicking his mount quickly away.
Allowed to dictate the pace, Berry had the 7-2 shot swinging along nicely and although favourite Genesi tried to peg back the distance at the finish, she was still a neck down at the line.
"She's a great, tough filly and she kept on going to the line. It was a lovely pot to win. She possibly needs further, ideally she probably needs one mile and six furlongs," said trainer Tom Hogan.< Panic (6-4) looks set to continue his career on foreign shores after landing the E.R.A Oates Auctioneers Race in the hands of Declan McDonogh.
The three-year-old was on the mark at Cork last Sunday and made it a speedy double for trainer Edward Lynam, who sold the colt on Monday.
He explained: "He's a three-parts brother to Rakti and we did a deal yesterday.
"Johnny Roe bought him to go to Hong Kong and you probably won't see him here again. I told Johnny whatever happened, he was running in this four-runner race."
The beautifully-bred Estephe made hard work of notching her first win in the Ballygar Maiden.
A daughter of Sadler's Wells out of Classic winner Tarascon, Johnny Murtagh had to be at his strongest to get the Tommy Stack-trained 4-9 favourite home by a head from Livaleo
Stack said: "She hated the ground there this evening. Johnny felt she was still very green but she's a very nice filly.
"We bred her ourselves and hopefully she'll make a Listed filly in time."
Veteran Water Side sprung a 16-1 surprise for jockey Colm O'Donoghue and trainer Michael Flannery as he notched his first win in nearly four years in the Boyle Handicap.
