Andrew Lynch limbered up for the return of Sizing Europe with a Gowran double in the two-mile champion's colours on Absolutlyfantastic and Cavite Beta
Absolutlyfantastic (7-4 favourite), a stablemate of Sizing Europe at Henry de Bromhead's yard, took the Thomastown Maiden Hurdle nicely, leading for most of the way and holding Scots Gaelic by three-quarters of a length.
It was tougher for the Jim Dreaper-trained Cavite Beta (6-1), who built a big lead in the Bennettsbridge Hurdle despite a slipping saddle, but looked about to be swamped as the opposition bore down in the straight, led by Slew Charm
The pair jumped the final flight together, but Lynch still had something up his sleeve and urged Cavite Beta on to victory by a neck, with favourite Some Present a commendable third on his return from a long lay-off.
The jockey wasn't far away from a treble in the familiar Potts colours when Sizing Santiago finished second to Shark Hanlon 's Misala in the Inistioge Beginners Chase, but only after the race was turned on its head at the third-last fence.< Jakros and Island Oscar seemed to have the prize between them at that point, but they fell independently and the contest was presented to the evens favourite, the mount of Andrew McNamara, who won by seven lengths.
Gillian Callaghan's seven-year-old Ongenstown Lad has been in cracking form since his return in April and took his winning tally to four in the feature Follow Gowran On Facebook Handicap Hurdle.
Keith Donoghue sent the 11-1 shot into the lead jumping the second-last flight and he cleared away to beat Cootamundra by eight lengths.
Robbie Burns' Mahrajaan (16-1) came out on top in a war of attrition for the Ballyhane Handicap Chase in the steadily worsening conditions, catching King High in the shadow of the post to score by a nose under Tom Doyle, with Clarkey a close third.
