The Mallow Handicap (Div I) saw Petticoat Lane (9s into 4/1 fav) land a gamble in the hands of Billy Lee.

The field were fanned out right across the straight in this seven furlong heat and the daughter of Dragon

Pulse, in a first-time visor, came home well over on the far side to lead well inside the final furlong.

There were several pursuers staying on well towards the stands’ side but the market leader scrambled home by a head and the same from Silk Cravat (17/2) and Rotokura (11/1).

Unraced at two, the winner had run respectably in her maidens before struggling on her handicap debut at Killarney. She is declared to run again over the same distance at Limerick on Friday.

Winning trainer Willie McCreery said: "She is a big mare, has taken a long time to come to hand and is from a very good family and was bred by Edmont Kent down here in Cork.

"I put the visor on her because she is a daft oul devil and just keeps learning. The more she learns, the better chance we have.

"She ran in terrible ground in Killarney and the better ground helped today.

"She is in on Friday (at Limerick) and we might run her again."
