The Dermot Weld trained Jewel Maker under jockey Declan McDonogh, justified 1/2 favourism to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Cork today.

The son of Invincible Spirit is the first foal from Weld's 2012 British Champions Mares and Fillies Group 2 Ascot winner Sapphire, herself a half-sister to Weld's Group 1 winner Free Eagle, and today battled well to eventually record a three parts of a length win over Aiseolas

Weld later said "he did what you'd expect him to do and is a colt that will really appreciate better ground and we'd hope to get black-type with him in the coming weeks. Distance-wise he wants seven to a mile and is a good actioned horse.

"He struggled a little bit when he left him down but it was a bit of inexperience and I think he's a horse who will come on considerably so I was just pleased to win with him today."
