Owner and renowned tenor Dr Ronan Tynan was in fine voice following the win of his Andy Slattery trained Whosgotyanow (7/2) which landed Killarney's dramatic Killarney Towers Hotel Beginners Chase today.
The daughter of Getaway was dueling with 11/10 favouritism Vina Ardanza from the second last and while the pair jumped the final fence upsides, Vina Ardanza crumpled on landing and fell. Whosgotyanow was left clear, beating Babylon Beach by a length and a quarter.
Winning trainer Andy Slattery was recording his second success in 24 hours at the Kerry venue, having won yesterday's bumper with Next Week and later Tynan gave a rendition of Will Ye Go Lassie Go, accompanied by tenor Anthony Kearns, over the public address in the parade ring.
Whosgotyanow's jockey Cian Quirke later reported “Ronan (Tynan) is delighted with the win and has been extremely good to me.
“He lets me ride all his horses and I work for him every evening at his yard at home. He has been unreal to me this season and I owe him a huge thanks, along with the Slatterys who you couldn't meet sounder people to work for.
“She is an honest mare, was very good over hurdles last season but lost her way this year. She came on from Wexford when the ground was too soft and it way too far for her, so we knew dropping back in distance she'd have a chance.
“Gordon's (Elliott, Vina Ardanza) is a good horse but we knew with a clear round we'd give him a run for it. She is very quick at her fences and loves that ground.”
