Stormy Master came from off the pace to land the concluding 3m1f handicap chase at odds of 22/1.

A course and distance winner last summer, the September Storm gelding then missed 11 months and had finished seventh in all three outings since his return to action in May.

With the fences in the home straight again omitted due to the low-lying sun, Liam Quinlan's mount made steady headway on the outer approaching the home turn and hit the front with over a furlong to race. The ten-year-old was nudged out to see off the challenge of Cafe Del Mar by a length-and-a-quarter.

Ray Hackett, who trains Stormy Master for his father Liam, was leading up his charge and Quinlan commented: "He is an older horse now and has his own way of doing things. We just said we'd keep going with him and that he'd fall into one someday and today was the day for him.

"He won around here last year and he has a bit of ability. Some days he might be on a going day and today he was. I've five winners left now before I lose the (3lb) claim."
