Pat Martin’s Stones Peak (7/1) got away from her 19 rivals over a furlong out and kept going to score in the six furlong handicap at Naas.
The filly, with Ronan Whelan in the plate, kept to the far side and had plenty of daylight before 4/1 favourite Ningaloo Reef closed to within a length and a half at the line.
First reserve Red Sea Poll (14/1) and Heroic Endeavour (16/1) both kept on for third and fourth respectively.
“We knew she would like the ground. It was supposed to be a good draw [1], but maybe it turned out it wasn’t,” Pat Martin said.
“She’s not big so being on her own suited her. She wouldn’t hold her own in a barging match.
“She’s in at Tipperary on Saturday and she might go there. I’ll see. I don’t like running her quickly as she has a light frame.
“We considered covering her after her last run, but we didn’t. She’ll run for the rest of the season.”
This was Pat Martin's third winner from his last six runners.
