Sir Des Champs progressing beautifully
Sir Des Champs 'missed' the last a little bit but he still found what was required on the run-in to beat the fellow Gigginstown House Stud-owned runner Fists Of Fury and his big market rival Hidden Cyclone in the Grade 2 Boylesports.com Bet On Your Mobile Novice Chase at Leopardstown. The successful French-bred remains unbeaten in the National Hunt sphere and he was bringing up a treble here for Willie Mullins, victorious in the first couple of races with Darroun and Aupcharlie
Hidden Cyclone made a mistake himself at the fence away from the stands but ultimately he didn't pick up as well as Sir Des Champs on the run-in and he went down by half a length and three parts of a length.
Mullins said: "He made a few errors there but he galloped on nicely from the last. He is improving slowly and he'll go for one of the staying novice chases at Cheltenham – either the Jewson of the RSA."
Davy Russell, the winning rider, said: "He was bit lazy throughout but he jumped great.
"He got in a little bit tight to the last but he is a clever horse and he fiddled it. I only had to give him one slap and we were always going to get there.
"I like him, I like him plenty and anything from two and a half miles up will be fine for him."
Paddy Power – 8/1 (from 10s) Sir Des Champs for the Jewson and 12/1 (from 16s) for the RSA.
Ladbrokes – 10/1 (from 12s) Sir Des Champs for the RSA.
Boylesports – 10/1 (from 14s) Sir Des Champs for the RSA and 10/1 (from 12s) for the Jewson.
