Grand National winner Jimmy Mangan bridged a 21 year gap between flat winners today, landing Clonmel's St. Patrick's Well Handicap with No Show a first winner for the trainer's newly formed racing club.
Unsuccessful for owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum in the UK, No Show was second in Gowran's 3.05pm yesterday and reappeared today, arriving from off the pace under Joey Sheridan to beat Sideshow Bob by a neck.
Mangan's only previous flat winner was with Ajar at today's venue in May 2000 and following today's race, the trainer of Monty's Pass reported “there are 100 members from everywhere, America and France, in the club (Jimmy Mangan Racing Club).
“I probably formed it at a bad time because they couldn't go racing. Fair dues to them though and I'm delighted to give them their first winner and I have two other winter horses for the syndicate.
“It is nice training flat horses and I said to (flat trainer) Willie McCreery that ye've had it ye're own way long enough. I'd like to have horses for both the summer and winter as people hate paying with nothing happening.”
Regarding No Show, he added “his last couple of runs were good and he ran a cracker at Gowran last night. He felt well this morning so we said why not have a go again.
“He'll be out over jumps shortly.”
