Pulse exit sets it up for Invader

Tue 13th Jan 2009, 13:38

The five runner Phil Sweeney Memorial Chase was robbed of much of its value when 4/6f Finger Onthe Pulse exited at the first fence, leaving the way clear for Willie Mullins' Irish Invader to eventually win easily by 13 lengths.

Cheltenham Festival winner Finger Onthe Pulse's blunder at the first fence resulted in Paddy Flood being unseated, leaving Irish Invader to race prominently before easily stretching clear in the straight for an easy win over Carigeen King.

Afterwards winning trainer Mullins reported "I told Ruby to make plenty of use of Irish Invader because he doesn't have that many gears. He needs to race up with the pace because he jumps so well. We'll go for a conditions race, around two miles, again next."
