Prescott in Dundalk to cheer home Clinical
The feature race at Dundalk tonight the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cooley Fillies Stakes produced an exciting finish with the 6/4 favourite Clinical just getting the better of Night Lily by a nose.
Trained in Newmarket by Mark Prescott the winning daughter of Motivator was recording her third Listed race win in-a-row, having won at both Cologne and Lingfield over the last two months.
The 3yo grey, who was ridden by Seb Sanders, raced in second for much of the race before hitting the front two furlongs out. She kept on well under pressure from there to just hold off the challenge of fellow English raider Night Lily by the minimum margin.
The runner-up was returned at 14/1 for her trainer Paul D'Arcy with Wayne Lordan aboard while Atlantic Swing at 10/1 was best of the Irish a further three parts of a length behind in third for John Oxx and Johnny Murtagh.
Clinical was strongly supported on track going from her opening show of 9/4 into 6/4 at the off.
Winning trainer Mark Prescott said afterwards: "The last time I was here I was coursing out in the middle of the track. That’s along time ago!
"It's a long way up that straight but I thought she was up even though you don't like to call your own.
"Cheveley Park (her owners Cheveley Park Stud) may race her again. It's a very nice pot to win.
"The runner-up actually travelled over with our filly.
"I wanted to see the track here and if there are more races like this with big pots I will be back.
"The real reason I am over is I have a dog coursing in Trim tomorrow. That's a proper sport!"
After the race the Stewards handed winning rider Seb Sanders with a two day ban for excessive frequency of the whip and failing to give his mount sufficient time to respond.
The Stewards also handed Declan McDonogh with a one day ban for failing to give his mount Rose Bonheur sufficient time to respond to the whip.
