Newcomer Painting Pictures ran out a good winner of the opener at Roscommon, the Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Maiden.
The Jessica Harrington trained daughter of Roderic O'Connor came in for some market support on track, opening at 14s before going off an 11/1 chance.
In front early on, the chestnut filly was soon settled in second by Colm O'Donoghue. She was ridden in pursuit of the leader from the two furlong pole, and led with a furlong left to race, staying on well from there to score by five and a half lengths. Band Of Outlaws who was sent off the 11/8 favourite finished second. Donnacha O'Brien lost his irons early on aboard the market leader, and did well to finish in the runner-up position given the circumstances. Vocal Music (9/4) completed the placings another length and a quarter back in third, with Kevin Manning in the saddle for Jim Bolger.
The Patrick Prendergast trained Triple Sec came in for plenty of market support this morning, going from 20s to an opening show of just 6/1. However she proved easy to back on-course, and went off at 8s, eventually finishing a disappointing sixth.
Colm O'Donoghue said afterwards: "She broke well and she travelled good. It was unfortunate that Donnacha was obviously in trouble in front of me.
"When I gave her a squeeze she picked up from two down and kept galloping to the line. She's open to improvement."
The winner was sold for E12,000 at Goffs last September.
STEWARDS REPORTS
D. O'Brien, rider of Band Of Outlaws, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that on leaving the stalls his iron shifted when making contact with the framework and his foot slipped out which resulted in him riding without both irons from thereon.
