Paene Magnus won his fifth race at Dundalk when triumphant under Kevin Manning in the Carragher's XL Castleblayney Race.
The chestnut was produced fit and well by Jim Bolger, on his first outing since early October, to lead a furlong out.
Easy-to-back 6/1 shot, Paene Magnus then fought off well-supported odds-on favourite, Captain Joy who threatened to pull it out of the fire, by half a length. Grey Danube (10/1) and Rummaging (20/1) ran well given their respective starting prices, taking the third and fourth spots, a length, and half a length adrift.
Meanwhile Producer (7/2) didn't come up to expectations, finishing last.
"Kevin said he loves it here. He was dropping back to a mile, from a mile-and-a-quarter, and he was very happy with him," reported Bolger's travelling head man, Ger Flynn.
"He qualifies for Lingfield now, but whether the boss decides to go or not is another thing. He loves the all-weather surface.
"That's his first run since being gelded, and Kevin was very happy with him. He's a different horse on that surface, although he had a good run up the Curragh behind Magician.
"It was workmanlike. It was his first run of the season and he should improve."
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Producer (GB), trained by D. K. Weld, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be Post Race Normal.
