The Willie Mullins trained True Self (1/3f) followed up her recent Galway festival win with a second bumper success at Down Royal today, landing the concluding Dale Farm Dromona (Mares) Bumper under the Champion Trainer’s son Patrick Mullins.
The daughter of Oscar, who had made her debut for trainer/owner/breeder Don Cantillon when second sat Warwick in November 2016, was made work for her two and a half lengths win over Betsy Boots and following the race jockey Patrick Mullins said “she was quite keen early on and was also a little worked up beforehand.
She got a little unbalanced crossing the road which has just made it look a bit more workmanlike than it felt and she has done it very easily.
"I think there is a Listed mares' bumper in Gowran at the end of this month and we'll aim for there, all being well. I think she seems fairly adaptable (in relation to ground).”
He added "Neville Eager is the main man in the partnership (Three Mile House Partnership); he had horses with Dessie Hughes and with Sandra Hughes until Sandra retired. He got in contact with us through Brian Hayes, whom he sponsors, and I live with Brian.
"A friend of mine, Paul Byrne picked her out at the Sales and she only cost 20 grand."
