Mr Lando was sent into the lead before two out and had enough in the tank to keep Porterman and Southfork at bay in the two mile juvenile maiden hurdle at Tramore.
Paul Deegan’s three-year-old was making his debut over hurdles after a period on the flat which saw him rated 47 after 11 races. His best result on the level came on his last outing when third in a Wexford claimer over an extended mile and three furlongs in July.
He landed some nice bets at the track, from 7/1 down to 5/1 when running out the two and a quarter length winner. This was despite being a market drifter this morning from 6/1 to 15/2.
Danny Mullins was on board this evening and after the pair jumped the last they weren’t going to be caught by Porterman (7/2) and Southfork (3/1 favourite from 15/8 this morning), despite them closing at the finish. Bigearsonmyright stayed on well for fourth having been well in rear throughout. This was his first run for Gordon Elliott, having raced once on the flat for Pat Martin before seeming to develop an aversion to stalls.
Afterwards Paul Deegan said in a phone call: “He’s a lovely dual-purpose horse who goes on any ground and he’s for sale [runs in his wife Kate’s colours].
“He’s jumped well at home and has done plenty of good schooling.”
This was Deegan’s first runner over jumps at the Waterford venue.
