Beau Warrior landed an inspired gamble to win the Christmas Party Nights Dundalk Nursery at Dundalk this evening as the Ado McGuinness made a winning handicap debut under jockey Rory Cleary.
The daughter of Declaration Of War managed two sixth placed finishes in her two latest unplaced runs in maidens but today was backed from 14/1 this morning in to 5/1 joint-favourite at the off before eventually scoring a length success over Imposing Supreme
Afterwards McGuinness stated “we got dropped 3lb early in the week and I wasn’t going to run her; there is another nursery here in three weeks time but she was that low that she wouldn’t have got in.
“She was last in today and I said 'I have to run her', even though she was 3lb wrong.
“I think she’s a smart little filly. We might run here again in three weeks but if we feel it has taken a lot out of her we’ll put her away till next year.
“We thought she was a really nice filly early in the year and fancied her first time in a maiden and she ran free. She’s matured a lot and grown a lot, and will be a nice filly for next year.
“The lads (Total Recall Racing Club) have been very lucky with me and I think we’ve had about 26 winners, and nearly every horse I’ve got them, bar one, has won. Hopefully she’ll replace the likes of Beau Satchel as he’s coming near the end of his career. She’ll be a nice filly for that three-year-old only at Galway next year; they like Galway!”
