Lucky back to winning ways
Lucky Wish (3/1cf) recorded his first success since October of 2009 as he held of the late challenge of Hangover (10/1) to win the Limerick.ie Steeplechase for his trainer Eoin Griffin and jockey Barry Geraghty.
The 8yo son of Alhaarth ran a great race on his penultimate start at the Punchestown Festival when finishing just two and a half lengths second to Scotsirish in a very competitive handicap chase. He since disappointed over hurdles at Cork however, finishing well behind Chino Valdes.
Back over fences today, the winner was never too far of the pace and headed the leader Antipode two from home. He then held off the late challenge of Hangover (10/1) and Davy Russell, scoring by just three parts of a length at the line.
Winning trainer Eoin Griffin said afterwards: "Its been a while since he stuck his head in front and its nice to be in the No 1 spot with him again. He is very consistent and he was entitled to win that race. Although he has failed to win similar races in the past.
"They have done a good job watering the track but Barry (Geraghty) said to me the ground was a bit dead for him.
"He will have an entry in the Galway Plate, where he will need the ground good or quicker. Like a lot of other horses he was bang there with a chance approaching the last but he came down (in last year's Plate).”
3/1 co favourite Arabella Boy ran a very poor race and was pulled up while King Of Redfield finished a disappointing fourth the other co favourite .
