Three Jacks got the better of Feathery in the opener at Tipperary, the Athassel House Stud EBF Maiden, scoring under Wayne Lordan for Martin Hassett.

Eighth on his debut at the Curragh in August, the son of Iffraaj progressed from that run to finish a good third on his next start.

Sent off the 13/2 second favourite (from 8's on-course) this afternoon, he was settled behind the leaders by Wayne Lordan.

He was ridden to challenge with over two furlongs to race, and soon got on terms with the leader Feathery. They had a great battle inside the final furlong, with Three Jacks getting the upper hand in the closing stages, going on to score by a head.

The aforementioned Feathery had to settle for second under Ronan Whelan for Jim Bolger at 16/1. Galilean was sent off the well-supported 4/6 favourite, and he was doing his best work towards the finish, staying on well to take third, another half a length back under Donnacha O'Brien for his father Aidan.

Martin Hassett said afterwards: "The biggest surprise was the price and if he was running under the Ballydoyle banner he'd have been money-on. If he was Aidan O'Brien's, you'd be saying where is he in the Derby picture and his run at the Curragh has turned out to be a serious maiden.

"We haven't discussed if he is for sale yet as he has been a fun horse but that's him finished for the year and we'll have to supplement him for some of those bigger races next year.

"Edmond (Ryan) bought him and owns him along with his wife Grainne and my wife Deirdre."

STEWARDS REPORTS

C.D. Hayes, rider of Ontheiflist trained by H.Rogers, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was hampered shortly after leaving the stalls and clipped a heel.

D. O'Brien, rider of Galilean trained by A.P.O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was hampered after a 100 yards and clipped a heel.
