Shay Barry is now of course operating his training establishment from the beautiful estate of Lord Waterford at nearby Curraghmore in Portlaw and he saddled a popular winner when favourite Lake Field justified his market position in the www.tramore-racecourse.com Handicap Hurdle.

On start number two for Barry, and with Donagh Meyler, from the village of Kilmacow in the nearby district of south Kilkenny, in the plate, Lake Field convincingly shed his maiden tag here in the two miler.

Owned by Waterford man, Martin Kiely, the Golan gelding tracked the leaders, he led two out, and kept on well on he run-in to get the better of Orah Hall by seven lengths.

"It's good to win after the last day in Thurles (2nd). It was probably a weak enough race today and he was entitled to go and do that," stated Barry.

"He handled the ground and he travelled well. We'll see what the handicapper does and he might run again over Christmas."

The Stewards fined William Hayes, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Bawntameena in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

P.T. Enright, rider of Cast No Shadow trained by Eoghan O'Grady, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up having never travelled from flagfall.
