Golden takes the last for Enright & Torrens
12/1 shot Golden Firth ran out a comfortable winner of the bumper at Navan this afternoon under Mark Enright for her trainer Mervyn Torrens.
The daughter of Flemensfirth had one run to her name before today that coming in a Down Royal bumper on St Stephen's Day where she finished a well beaten fourth to Mount Colah.
Having led and disputed for much of the race she was ridden back into the lead two and a half furlongs from home.
She kept on well from there going on to score by four lengths at the line from 33/1 shot Kaylas Charm back in second for her trainer Michael Hogan. Caballo De Marcus was a further four and a half lengths back in third under Mikey Fogarty for Conor O’Dwyer while the 9/10 favourite Raise Hell for Willie & Patrick Mullins disappointed back in seventh.
Winning trainer Mervyn Torrens said afterwards of his Robert Donaldson owned filly: "I thought she would win at Down Royal but it was a fair enough bumper and greenness as much as anything beat her.
"She is tough and we may have a look at the fillies’ bumper in Aintree for her now and better ground will suit her."
The winner is a half-sister to the ill-fated 2010 Ulster National winner Chief Oscar (who was in the same ownership as Golden Firth), Seamus Fahey's four time winner Tawrific Laois and the Colin Tizzard trained four time winner Golden Chieftain.
