A sizeable gamble was landed in the concluding Racegoers Club Ladies (Pro-Am) Bumper at Killarney today as newcomer Summerville Boy rewarded sustained support to win for trainer Sam Curling and British based amateur jockey Gina Andrews.
Summerville Boy had been backed at odds of 50/1 yesterday evening before sustained support saw his price collapse from 33/1 ‘early-doors’ today, to 9/1 generally at lunchtime and from an opening show of 9/2 on-track to 7/2 second favourite at the off.
Andrews, a regular on the British amateur jockeys’ circuit but riding her first Irish winner, was brought in for the ride on the son of Sandmason and the pair moved to the front inside the final furlong before scoring a four lengths win over Suncroft
Afterwards Curling, son of renowned equine painter Peter Curling, said “he's a lovely horse and his work has been very good. He was only away on grass once and was a bit green. He'll come on alot from that.
"He's for sale and will go to one of the sales."
