For the second time in succession, Waterville Dancer let down his many supporters, as Crezic came home in front in the Follow Kilbeggan On Twitter Maiden Hurdle.
A disappointing eleventh when sent off a well-backed 11/10 favourite at Cork earlier this month, the money again piled on the Charles Byrnes trained Waterville Dancer this evening.
Having opened at 7/2 on-course, the son of Nathaniel eventually went off the 10/11 favourite, but he could only manage third with Donal McInerney in the saddle.
Early morning favourite Crezic was the one who landed the spoils, despite a wayward jump at the first.
Settled in second by Davy Russell, the son of Califet improved to lead from two out, and kept on well under pressure from the last, going on to score by a length and three parts.
Newcomer Amshel (12/1) ran a nice race to take second under Rachael Blackmore for Ellmarie Holden, with Waterville Dancer a neck away in third.
Champion jockey Russell said afterwards: "On his run in Naas he was entitled to win that. He just about handled the track and I suppose he'll run away now for the summer. He jumps great and he'll find his place."
STEWARDS REPORTS
The Stewards fined A.L.T.Moore, trainer, E350 for failing to lodge the passport in respect of Organised Solution (FR), in accordance with the provisions of Rule 90. The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Organised Solution (FR). Justice Tony Hunt, Chairman, took no part in this decision.
.
The Stewards received a report from Mr. L. Walsh , Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that J.J. Slevin , rider of Edna (FR) , weighed in at 1.3 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that this was the case. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that J.J. Slevin was in breach of Rule 231 and having considered his record, suspended him for 1 raceday.
